TANKS - PORT ARANSAS, TX

     The "Tanks" is an back island lagoon located on North Padre Island on Hwy 361 between Corpus Christi & Port Aransas that works well on any north winds, but best and cleanest when it has an eastern component.  The Southern winds can be ridden here as well, but cross over land and several structures creating a wind shadow at the main first launch, launch at the second launch at the end of the caliche service road  on southern winds as there is a longer fetch.        
     The access to the lagoon is by an oilfield/gas service road that runs around the lagoon.  Currently the lagoon is open to kiteboarding and other activities (kayaking, fishing, and duck hunting), but stay on the main road and do not venture into the privately controlled areas, or park on the sand flats launching area.      Follow these simple rules and keep access open for the locals and future visiting kiters.
