FAQS

FAQS

Why do I need to take a lesson to learn to kiteboard? While kiteboarding has become much safer in recent years due to improvements in gear and safety systems, there still is a need for guidance by a competent instructor. An unprepared kiteboarder is not only a danger to himself, but also a danger to unsuspecting people around him.

How many lessons will I need to before I can go out on my own?  As a rule of thumb it usually takes about 5-10 hrs of lesson time to become an independent beginner in kiteboarding.  Some students will go and obtain their own equipment after one or two lessons to practice on their own, and then come back and schedule another lesson to tighten up their technique.  It really depends on the students goals, availability to practice, and previous experience on how fast they may progress.  Our Instructors will evaluate the students progress throughout the lesson and give an evaluation at the end on how best to proceed.

Is the Instructor certified or have any training? Yes, all Instructors at 361KITE are PASA Certified Kiteboard Instructors as well as CPR / First Aid certified.

Where are the lessons held? Depending on wind & weather conditions, lesson type, and student preference we have several sites in the Corpus Christi / South Texas area to choose from.  This ensures that the student is learning in the best possible conditions available.

Do I need to bring anything? No, all equipment is provided by 361KITE (unless student prefers to use their own).  Students should bring sunscreen, drinks/water, and/or water shoes/reef booties are recommended.

What should i wear? Active swimwear is recommended.

Will we take a break? Yes, the student will have the opportunity to take 1-2 breaks during the lesson.  If the student needs more time, not a problem, the Instructor is there is help the student learn at a comfortable and safe pace.

Can I bring a friend/partner to the lesson?  Sure, bring a friend along if you like, please remember that our policy at 361KITE is a maximum of Three (3) students per water based lesson (ask about our semi-private and group discounts).

Do you sell equipment?  Yes, we do carry a great line up of Kites from Best Kiteboarding and boards from Tona. You will have the opportunity to demo our equipment during your lesson as well.

What Our Students Are Saying

Sean L. (Facebook) - Tom was an Awesome instructor! He made everything easy to understand when I was learning. Can't wait to take my next lesson!
Olga & Travis M. (Trip Advisor) - My husband and I had a great experience with the staff of 361 Kite in Corpus Christi when taking first time kitesurf lessons in October and November of 2014. Our instructor Tom walked us through all the basic technical matters and important safety concerns before our practices. Tom really cares about the success of his students.
Thurston O. (Yelp) - Tom is an excellent instructor in teaching beginners and explaining how it works. He'll walk you through all the steps, go over all the safety, and get you out practicing in the water on the first lesson!
