Why do I need to take a lesson to learn to kiteboard?
While kiteboarding has become much safer in recent years due to improvements in gear and safety systems, there still is a need for guidance by a competent instructor. An unprepared kiteboarder is not only a danger to himself, but also a danger to unsuspecting people around him.

How many lessons will I need to before I can go out on my own?  As a rule of thumb it usually takes about 5-10 hrs of lesson time to become an independent beginner in kiteboarding.  Some students will go and obtain their own equipment after one or two lessons to practice on their own, and then come back and schedule another lesson to tighten up their technique.  It really depends on the students goals, availability to practice, and previous experience on how fast they may progress.  Our Instructors will evaluate the students progress throughout the lesson and give an evaluation at the end on how best to proceed.

Is the Instructor certified or have any training? Yes, all Instructors at 361KITE are PASA Certified Kiteboard Instructors as well as CPR / First Aid certified.

Where are the lessons held? Depending on wind & weather conditions, lesson type, and student preference we have several sites in the Corpus Christi / South Texas area to choose from.  This ensures that the student is learning in the best possible conditions available.

Do I need to bring anything? No, all equipment is provided by 361KITE (unless student prefers to use their own).  Students should bring sunscreen, drinks/water, and/or water shoes/reef booties are recommended.

What should i wear? Active swimwear is recommended.

Will we take a break? Yes, the student will have the opportunity to take 1-2 breaks during the lesson.  If the student needs more time, not a problem, the Instructor is there to help the student learn at a comfortable and safe pace.

Can I bring a friend/partner to the lesson?  Sure, bring a friend along if you like, please remember that our policy at 361KITE is a maximum of Three (3) students per water based lesson (ask about our semi-private and group discounts).

Do you sell equipment?  Yes, we do carry a great line up of Kites from ELEVEIGHT. You will have the opportunity to demo our equipment during your lesson as well.

What Our Students Are Saying

Jamie E. (Google) - Terrific lesson. Gael was great. Very detailed explanations, with lots of pointers and advice on how to try new things with incremental steps and lots of suggestions. Always providing tips and support over the radio. Best of all were the safety tips about launching, board setup, and bar retrieval. Great lesson!! Will be back for more.
Hayden B. (Google) - The crew at 361Kite was great! 4 of us decided to give it a shot. They were very accommodating for us and split us into 2 groups so each instructor had 2 students. Gael and Tristan had a lot of knowledge to pass down to us in the 3 hour lesson. We learned how to set up the gear, kite safety, kite flying fundamentals, and lastly getting up on the board. I only regret not doing a longer lesson. I think we would have the confidence to kiteboard on our own after one more trip with Gael and Tristan.
Holly H. (Google) - Our 12 year old wanted to learn how to kiteboard over his summer break. 361Kite was super flexible with scheduling him in for lessons. Gael was his instructor and he did an awesome job with teaching him everything from safety, understanding the weather conditions, controlling the kite, and being able to use the power of the kite to get up on the board and ride. For working with a 12 year old he had amazing patience and gave my son the encouragement he needed to be riding by the end of his lessons. I would highly recommend Gael and 361Kite when booking to learn!
