ROCKPORT BEACH - ROCKPORT, TX
*****CURRENTLY KITEBOARDING IS RESTRICTED AT ROCKPORT BEACH AND LITTLE BAY FOR A PORTION OF THE YEAR*** Rockport beach is one of the nicest and most well kept beaches in the South Texas area, if not the whole state of Texas. Many amenities are offered here at Rockport beach such as showers, gazebos, grassy play areas w/ jungle gyms, and bbq pits. The majority of Rockport beach is a pay access beach with day use of about $5/day or $15/season,but there is a public area just before the entrance where you can access the beach side or the ski canal (Little Bay) area.
Rockport beach wind conditions on average are usually less than the launch sites located in Corpus Christi and Portland, but when the normal launch sites are blown out over +20 mph and up is when Rockport really shines giving rid-able winds on the shallow beach side (thigh to waist deep for hundreds of yards out) as well as providing some of the best flat water conditions in the area at Little Bay just behind the beach. Please be careful as the Little Bay area is deep throughout and overhead, so experienced riders only allowed. Also, this area is mainly a ski basin for boats, and while kiteboarding in the ski basin is tolerated, because of recent incidences involving thoughtless kiteboarders the access has been restricted to a smaller launch area. |
